Starting a professional career in a new country can be challenging—especially when your experience and qualifications come from abroad. That’s why ISSO’s Mentoring for Internationally Educated Professionals program exists: to help you bridge the gap, grow your confidence, and find meaningful opportunities in Canada.

We match skilled newcomers with experienced professionals who offer support in employment, entrepreneurship, language, and Canadian workplace culture.

👩‍💼 Are You a Newcomer Professional?

If you’re an internationally trained professional looking to:

  • Build a career in your field
  • Improve your English in a professional setting
  • Learn how to start a business in Canada
  • Navigate the job market with expert guidance

This program is for you.

✅ Mentee Eligibility:

  • Professional qualifications (outside Canada)
  • At least 1 year of international work experience
  • Living in Canada for less than 10 years
  • Committed to meeting a mentor 1 hour/week for up to 4 months
  • Motivated to grow professionally and integrate into Canadian society

You don’t need to be an expert—just someone willing to share your experience and help someone new feel supported. Mentoring is a rewarding, flexible volunteer opportunity that makes a real difference in someone’s life.

✅ Mentor Highlights:

  • Support newcomers in your field
  • Share insights, job-search tips, and communication strategies
  • Help someone adjust to Canadian workplace culture
  • Offer guidance on career paths or entrepreneurship
  • Only 1 hour per week commitment for up to 4 months
  • Meet in-person or virtually (Zoom/phone/Skype)
  • Orientation and ongoing support provided
