Filing Taxes Can Be Stressful. We’re Here to Make It Easier.
Since 2011, ISSO has proudly supported the Canada Revenue Agency’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) by hosting free income tax clinics for newcomers, international students, and community members with modest incomes.
Each year, between February and April, our trained volunteers help hundreds of people file their tax returns—at no cost.
Who Are These Clinics For?
Our tax clinics are open by appointment only to individuals who meet CVITP eligibility criteria. This typically includes:
- Newcomers to Canada
- International students
- Individuals and families with low income
- People with simple tax situations
We’re here to help those who need it most—because understanding your taxes shouldn’t depend on your income.

- Hosted across Ottawa and select other cities
- Trained volunteers prepare basic personal tax returns
- Strictly confidential and CRA-compliant
- Offered in multiple languages (when available)

📋 What You’ll Need to Bring
To help us file your taxes smoothly, please bring:
- ✅ Social Insurance Number (SIN) or Individual Tax Number (ITN)
- ✅ Last year’s Notice of Assessment (if available)
- ✅ All relevant tax slips (T4, T4A, T5, T5007, T2202A, etc.)
- ✅ Rent receipts or donation receipts (if applicable)
- ✅ Medical expenses and health plan premiums (if applicable)
- ✅ Spouse and/or dependent details (SIN, date of birth, income)
- ✅ Information on bursaries, scholarships, or child benefits
- ✅ Foreign income or support payment receipts (if applicable)
📄 International students or temporary residents who do not have a SIN can apply for an Individual Tax Number (ITN) using CRA Form T1261.
